AEI is going to AAZK
Updated: Feb 11, 2019
At Aquatic Exhibits International, we don't want to limit our participation in the zoological industry to installing aquariums, we want to foster connections. That’s why we've applied to teach a course at AAZK in 2019, to introduce keepers to life support systems.
Not sure what's going on with your life support system? You're not alone!
In a survey we sent to zookeepers around the world, 85.9% of respondents described their comfort and competency with life support systems as a grade of C or lower.
In a field of biologists, this shouldn’t come as a surprise.
You went to school to study the reproductive biology of polar bears, the nutritional needs of sea otters, or the social dynamics of flamingos. These classes didn’t include a manual on sizing pumps. Yet these pumps (and other life support equipment) are a major component for the aquatic habitats that are vital to animal health.
Too often, the experts we ask for help don’t make a lot of sense. (I mean, fractionator? Is that science-fiction?)
Mastering your life support systems is so much easier than you think.
As a keeper, your resume will gain a huge boost from these fundamentals.
Your animals will benefit from your understanding too! Not only will you manage their exhibits with confidence, your new knowledge can mean that the enrichment rotation might add running water features.
Don't miss out on the opportunity to be a better keeper. We hope to see you this year at AAZK 2019.
